Bookstores, libraries, and coffee shops are great places for book readings. There is something special about hearing the voice of an author reading their stories. Their voice and intonation are  nuanced by the many hours of effort putting pen to paper.  They created the characters,  structured the plot, and lived every twist and turn that creates bumps in the storyline. 

Living in the reality of Covid-19, book readings at public libraries and bookstores have been curtailed.  We are learning to embrace technology in new ways.

I am thrilled to introduce Teagan Geneviene, who will be our guest author reading her freshly published book, Hullaba Lulu – a Diesel-punk Adventure. We are embarking on a wild and woolly 1920’s fantasy story. I am looking forward to meeting Lulu and tagging along on her adventure.

I’m so glad that you listened in Paul. Teagan has a wonderful imagination – I love the Lulu, Pearl, Rose and the angel bots! A book comes alive when authors give background into why they write and how they come to tell a story. Authors reading their books bring out the emotional nuances of the storyline that entice listeners to engage in the storyline. I loved attending author “book readings” at libraries and books stores pre-COVID-19. Now, that these type of functions have been put on hold, I thought that we could attempt a virtual reading.

I agree, they are so talented, Teagan. Rebecca’s voice is gorgeous. It has everything: warmth intimacy. As soon as you hear it, you like her and want to listen to what she has to say. Don as a sound engineer is frankly magical. Saying that, so are you.
In this extract you perfectly captured the spirit of Lulu and brought her to dazzling life. Your accent is an utter delight. You sound like someone from a golden age Hollywood movie. It is incredible to imagine people sound like that in real life. Where you live it probably sounds normal and you don’t give it a second thought. To a Northern Englisher, it is gorgeous and rich in romance, as exotic as a creature from the moon.

I agree – Teagan has a remarkable voice that lends itself to her writing style. I really enjoy listening to authors reading their books. There add emotional nuances that can only come from the soul of the storyteller. Sending many thanks and hugs your way.

I am thrilled that you listened in!! Teagan has a special kind of magic, doesn’t she? Her voice brings out the storyline. I feel that I am with Lulu. When authors reads their books, there is an authenticity. They provide emotional nuances that arise from their experience of writing the story. For me, knowing the background of a story adds so much to the enjoyment of the narrative. Thank you for listening in – your presence and comments are very much appreciated.

The backdrop for your introductory video is breathtaking! Sounds like Teagan’s book are as well! I agree that it’s wonderful to hear author’s read their own stories and that our favorite venues are inaccessible these days for this 😦

Thank you for listening in, Mary Jo. Teagan has a remarkable voice for reading, doesn’t she? Hearing a story has a different feeling than reading the story, doesn’t it. I have come to late audiobooks, only because it was an efficient way to read more books. I walked back and forth from work with an audiobook on my iPod. It was difficult to listen at first, because I am a visual learner. I soon found that hearing a voice connected me to the author. It brought me back to when my mother read bedtime stories. Perhaps, it was a nod to the ancient past when families sat around the campfires and recounted stories. I’m glad that you joined the TTT campfire. Sending many hugs!

Thank you so for your heartwarming comments, Diana. I am delighted that Teagan introduced me to Steampunk and Dieselpunk. I am now researching the art that came out of Steampunk and Dieselpunk. One story leads to the next and the next and next. The greatest gift we have is to learn. Sending hugs back with all speed. As Teagan says, “hugs on the wing.”

This is an exciting podcast and fun, as well. I have learned about a time and new kind of book that I did not know about before, What an exciting “find”! Thank you for introducing me to a new kind of book and to a new author. Very good to hear the author’s voice, some of her ideas and some of her writing. This is an excellent idea–great to hear the author’s voice. There was one item mentioned several times. Victrola, we had one, also a long time ago. It brought joy to our family and was a good addition in our living room, we enjoyed listening as a family, I enjoyed looking at all the comments–a proof of the podcast’s value,

I can only imagine the joy it was to listen as a family after a long day in the fields. I knew that you would enjoy this podcast conversation. Steampunk and Dieselpunk were new to me as well. It’s a delight to meet you, Ms. Frances. Thanks so much for taking time to listen and leave this lovely comment. Victrolas were such beautiful machines. That’s part of why I enjoy my research for steampunk (Victorian looking) and dieselpunk stories — the machinery/technology usually included beauty. We don’t seem to do that very often today.

I used Victorian Era technology in a more realistic way in the novelette, Fiona Finch & the Pink Valentine. It’s short, but I was able to make good use of the vacuum tubes (like they used to have at banks) from the era.
